Q: What is "DynatOS"?
A: To begin, "DynatOS" is a combination of words. It consists of the word Dynatos, which is Greek for "powerful" modified by OS, which is an acronym for "Operating System". The DynatOS Project itself is (yet another) Operating System project with the intention of being able to run on many different computer platforms starting with Intel's 32-bit Processor Series (the common PC).
Q: Why another Operating System?
A: Why another car manufacturer? Why another clothing designer? Why another whatever? Basically the designers of DynatOS believe that they can provide something better than, or at least alternatives to, the current operating systems... and they just might have fun in the process :)
Q: What makes DynatOS unique?
A: Not much yet. The Core of the operating system has yet to be something of solid structure. The intentions are to have a stable Core for the common PC and to eventually expand to other computer systems.
Q: What is this "Core" that is spoken of?
A: The "Core" is merely code relative to the processor's architecture, or to put it in much simpler terms, instructions that a certain computer system can understand (like the common PC). The goal is to have a Core unique to each computer system that it can run the Dynatos Operating System.
Q: If the Core isn't the Operating System, then what the heck is?
A: The actual Operating System, or set of program routines that runs a computer system, will be written in a unique code that computers do not naturally understand. It is the Core's job to optimize the Operating System for the computer it is specifically running on. Using this method, we will only have to make each Core unique and develop a common Operating System, which will help reduce incompatibility and development time.
Q: How much is a product like this going to cost to a consumer?
A: DynatOS itself has every intention of being freeware. The price of software applications available on DynatOS will be determined by the programmers and software compaines that develop them.
Q: How are programmers and software companies going to be able to make software for DynatOS?
A: There will be a standard DynatOS Software Development Kit available for use by everyone, free of charge.
Q: How will DynatOS be licensed?
A: DynatOS will be protected and released under the DynatOS Software License Agreement.
Q: Will DynatOS be open-source?
A: Yes and no. Portions that we consider to be "unprotected" will be released under the DynatOS Software License Agreement. These "unprotected" portions will consist of source code that qualify for open-source release. "Protected" portions of the source code, which may have sensitive information pertaining to Non Disclosure Agreements, or the like, will be released in binary form only.
